The tunnels of Miravete and the viaduct over the Tagus are the two most outstanding constructions undertaken in the project of the Extremadura highway, the CN. V from Madrid to Portugal via Badajoz in the stretch Almaraz East - Jaraicejo South, Cáceres. The tunnels are parallel, respectively 1.141 and 1.154 m. long with a separation of 36 m. from their axes. The are designed for one-way traffic with two 3,50 wide lanes, 1,00 m. borders and 0,80 m. sidewalks. The 500 m. long viaduct crosses the Tagus at the tail end of the Torrejón dam. It is a bridge built by cantilever and its main span of 175 m. is the longest in Spain to be constructed by this method.
