Young students from Extremadura and the Portuguese regions of Alentejo and Centro were the protagonists of the events celebrating Europe Day in the EUROACE Euroregion (Alentejo - Centro - Extremadura) held this year in the town of Portalegre.

After the impossibility of celebrating it in 2020 and doing it virtually in 2021, this year it has once again been held in person with the participation of 150 young people from the three regions.

Students from the Escola Secundária Rainha Santa Isabel de Estremoz (Alentejo), the Escola Secundária de Ponte de Sor (Alentejo), the Agrupamentos de Escolas de Sertã and Proença-a-Nova (Centro), as well as the high schools Matías Ramón Martínez from Burguillos del Cerro and Extremadura from Montijo in Extremadura, gathered at the facilities of the Higher School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre.

After the raising of the flag, the playing of the European anthem and the speeches of the representatives of each region and of the students, the European Internationalisation Week of IP Portalegre and the six projects of each of the participating schools and institutes were presented. The practices presented by the schools were about the transformation of the places where we learn, pedagogical approaches or the relationship between the educational field and the local community, challenges launched by the New European Bauhaus Initiative.

The afternoon session consisted of various workshops (multimedia, screen printing, etc.) and a final performance by the Student Music Group from the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre.

The celebration of Europe Day is an important date in the calendar of joint activities of the Euroregion. Each year it changes venue and the activities allow students from the three regions to share a day of coexistence in which they show their work and learn about the importance of cross-border cooperation in the construction of Europe.
