The Office of Cross-Border Initiatives (GIT) is a project approved by the Spanish-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Programme (POCTEP) INTERREG V A and co-financed by the European Union through the ERDF. It is structured into three centres, one in Mérida, under the responsibility of the Directorate-General for External Action of the Government of Extremadura, and the other two in Évora and Coimbra, supervised respectively by the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions of Alentejo and Centro. The three offices have their own budget and staff and work in a coordinated manner to achieve their goals.
Among its tasks is to ensure the functioning of the Secretariat of the Euroregion, as laid down in the Agreement establishing the EUROACE Working Community, and to stimulate all kinds of relations and cooperation projects between Extremadura and Portugal.
