A working group of the Council of Europe presented in 1960 a report on Europe's cultural routes. From 1985 onwards, itineraries were created to vivify in Europeans their common cultural heritage. In particular, in East-Central Europe, European cultural ties have multiplied in the 1980s and 1990s, arising from a twofold need: To renew cooperation and foster networks in the European cultural context through transnational and cross-border routes. In this sense, the aim was to advance and consolidate a cultural project of cooperation and integration, which would stimulate the awareness of the European citizen and reflect on the common cultural heritage. © 2017 Universidade de Coimbra - Faculdade de Letras.
