Rural areas are going through a demographic crisis, a scenario that has prompted actions aimed at promoting an endogenous development model based on the sustainable use of territorial resources. Under these circumstances, the main objective of this article is to analyse the possibilities offered by hunting as an economic activity in the rural territory of the Portuguese-Extremaduran border. The starting point is the hypothesis that this area is undergoing a profound demographic crisis and little economic development, although it has significant natural capital: protected areas, pastures and hunting grounds. Official sources have been consulted to provide alphanumeric information which has been processed using descriptive and spatial statistical techniques that have allowed us to obtain results which confirm the hypothesis and to map the areas of greatest economic value from the point of view of hunting. © de los autores.
