The European Commission, Banco de España and MOSTLY AI have successfully conducted a joint pilot on synthetic data during Summer 2022. MOSTLY AI provided a self-service synthetic data platform, that was installed and operated within the secure compute environment of Banco de España. Their staff then prepared and independently synthesized large-scale datasets successfully. The structure, the statistics and the patterns were very well retained, with a few noted exceptions, which are being addressed as part of this report. The valuable learnings from this pilot, and the corresponding recommendations by all stakeholders shall hopefully inform the continued establishment of a future project. We consider the initiative of utmost importance to foster cross-border, privacy-safe collaboration on Responsible AI within Europe.
